Making tomato sauce with your home grown tomatoes is very easy. Start with all of the tomatoes from your garden. Even if you don’t have tomatoes in your own garden, this is a great way of making fresh tomato sauce if that’s what you’re looking to do.
- Gather tomatoes that are ripe
- Wash twice
- If the tomatoes are large, chop them up in smaller pieces
- Put it in a very large pot on low to medium heat. Alternatively you could put this in a slow cooker on high mode if you’re lazy. I’ve done both methods. 🙂
- Wait for the tomatoes to cook down.
- Get your potato masher and smash the tomatoes down periodically
- Once all the tomato skins are mushy and you see a lot of liquid coming out, you’re ready for the next step!
- Grab your food mill and pour one ladle at a time into the food mill over a bowl
- Wait for the sauce to cool down
- If you have any extras, you can pour into zip lock bags and freeze for later
